Addiction is a disease; an addict appears to be using the substance to solve his problems. Extensive research during the last 50 years points out that an abnormal physiological reaction causes the addicts dependency on the substance. In other words the mental and physical pull towards addiction is always going to be there but they have to develop skills to strengthen their recovery and practice the skills of keeping them away from addiction.
